Exploding Acne MythsAcne is one very common affliction in a person’s life. It is almost something one can count upon just as the onset of puberty – which incidentally is the time when acne first manifests itself. The fact that science has not been able to decipher what is the exact physiology of acne has left scope for a number of myths to develop. Some of these myths are listed below: Myth - Acne is actually the result of a lot of grime accumulated on the face either due to dust in the air or other similar pollutants.Fact – Grime, dust or dirt is not a cause for acne. In fact this particular myth sometimes aggravates acne since people in their zeal to keep their face clean, keep washing it with soap, which in turn promotes excess oiliness and harms the skin. Myth – acne would not trouble you after you cross your teens. It is very widely believed that acne is closely related to puberty and one the body rhythms set in, the acne simply goes away.Fact – it is true than acne is for the first time most likely to appear around puberty time. It is also true that in most cases acne does disappear in a few years time, once the hormonal activity becomes balanced. However, people in the age group of 25-45 are also prone to acne for various reasons – among which the most prominent is stress. Myth – most treatment for acne can work miracle overnight since these can single out the blackheads and whiteheads spot by spot.Fact – it is true that some local administration of retinoids held in removing the unsightly pimples. However, by itself this treatment (or any other localized, ‘spot-by-spot’ treatment) cannot work. Usually there are a number of antibiotics that are involved – sometimes third generation drugs that actually make a real difference in controlling acne. The root cause needs to be handled much more than the localized one if you want to really get rid of the acne problem. Myth – applying make up too often any type of make up causes eruption of acne in the long run.Fact – there is no truth in this at all. If the cosmetics do not suit a person, he/ she would develop a rash that is the result of reaction or allergy to any of the ingredients. However, under no circumstances there is any possibility that acne would be caused by the use of any type of cosmetics. Myth – excess of masturbation or sex cause acne.Fact – there is absolutely no co relation here. Maybe because acne erupts at a time when adolescents actually indulge in excess masturbation or sex must have given birth to this myth. There is absolutely no truth in this however. Acne doe not reduce or increase based on your sexual activity. Myth - acne can be prevented and cured if checked in time – i.e. before the onset of puberty.Fact – the actual cause of acne has not been really pined down by modern science yet. Hence, there is no way that anyone could guarantee prevention or its cure. However, there are a few herbal preparations (not FDA approved) that claim they could keep the acne from flaring up. Acne Diet – Does It Influence This Affliction Or NotAcne is an affliction that has harassed people for a very long time. Modern science despite the all the development in technology has not yet been able to pinpoint the exact reason for the outbreak of acne. There are many presumptions and myths surrounding this topic. However, none of them have the full backing of any medical research that conclusively proves it correct. |
